Ramona C. Tenorio, MS, PhD is the President of Broader Impact, LLC a professional consulting firm that assists clients in achieving the broader impacts of their mission through professional consultation, research and grant services, strategic planning and assessment, systems management, and data analysis services. Dr. Tenorio is a social scientist with a unique educational and professional background in Medical Anthropology, Translational Science, Physical Geography, and Geographic Information Science (GIS). She has years of experience in applied health research, diversity, equity and inclusion, community engagement, CBPR, translational science, strategic initiatives, project management, and grant writing and design. 

Dr. Tenorio has supported and directed key state and national grant awards, including as a:

  • Principal Investigator for a U.S. Department of Education, TRIO McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement $1.3M Award

  • Co-Investigator and Grant Consultant of a NIH/NCATS $2M TL1-Award

  • Key Personnel, Consultant, Grant Writer, & Grant Program Director of Subawards for an NIH/NCATS $20M U-Award

  • Key Personnel, Consultant, Grant Writer, & Grant Program Director of Subawards for Advancing a Healthier Wisconsin Research and Education Programs (AHW REP) $5M Award

 

Additionally, Dr. Tenorio has assisted numerous Principal Investigators from various STEM and clinical research fields in the successful design and implementation of their state, national, and private funding proposals. She has supported hundreds of investigators on pre and post award grant support and management, including:

  • Reviewing and providing feedback on grant proposals;

  • Assisting investigators to form effective interdisciplinary research teams;

  • Producing post-award reports and deliverables;

  • Connecting community members and researchers;

  • Consulting on broader impacts and inclusion design and implementation.

 

While Director of the Clinical & Translational Science Institute (CTSI) Pilot Translational and Clinical Studies Program at the Medical College of Wisconsin, Dr. Tenorio increased funding across the translational continuum (T1-T4) and increased the depth of interdisciplinary and interinstitutional collaborations in team science.

 

While on the faculty of the Medical College of Wisconsin, Dr. Tenorio played an active role in facilitating community-engaged research and scholarship on campus. She was also an active member of the National Coalition Building Institute (NCBI) Coalition Builders Leadership team. NCBI is an international non-profit leadership development network dedicated to the elimination of racism and other forms of oppression.

 

Dr. Tenorio is also a national speaker and educator on issues related to team science, community engagement, medical anthropology, race and racism, and cultural humility in healthcare.
